Production Characteristics

Long Production Cycle: The production cycle for ordinary power graphite electrodes is approximately 45 days, while ultra-high-power graphite electrodes require more than 70 days. Graphite electrode joints that require multiple impregnation cycles have even longer production cycles.

High Energy Consumption: Producing 1 ton of ordinary power graphite electrodes consumes about 6,000 kWh of electricity, thousands of cubic meters of coal gas or natural gas, and approximately 1 ton of metallurgical coke particles and powder.

Complex Production Process: The production process involves multiple steps, including raw material calcination, crushing and grinding, batching, kneading, molding, roasting, impregnation, graphitization, and mechanical processing. It requires specialized machinery and kilns, resulting in significant construction investment and a long payback period.

Environmental Impact: The production process generates dust and harmful gases, necessitating comprehensive environmental protection measures such as ventilation, dust removal, and harmful gas elimination.

Raw Material Challenges: The carbonaceous raw materials required, such as petroleum coke and coal tar, are by-products of oil refining and coal chemical processing. Ensuring the quality and stability of these raw materials, especially needle coke, modified electrode asphalt, and special impregnating agent asphalt with low quinoline insoluble content, is challenging. Close collaboration with China's petroleum and coal chemical processing enterprises is essential to address these issues.
