Hp 400mm Graphite Electrode
HP 400mm graphite electrode is mainly made of petroleum coke and needle coke. The allowable current is 21000-31000A, and the current density can be 16-24A/cm². Generally used for high-power electric arc furnace steelmaking.

The Manufacturing Process of 400mm Graphite Electrode
Step 1: Extrusion Process
The needle cokes are finely crushed and selectively sieved to ensure that only the desired particle sizes are retained. These particles are then combined with pitch in precise proportions to form a paste-like mixture. The resulting mixture is then extruded and molded into cylindrical shapes using molds of specific dimensions.
STEP 2: Baking Process
To carbonize the pitch, it is subjected to heat treatments of approximately 1000°C. If baking process is carried out in a short time, cracks and pores could occur due to volatile substances included in the pitch or shrinkage.
STEP 3: Pitch Impregnation Process
During the baking and re-baking processes, volatile substances included in the pitch evaporate, creating pores. The pores are filled again with pitch, to increase its density. The pitch impregnation process is repeated multiple times for the electrode joints (PIN) to ensure optimal density and strength.
STEP 4: Rebaking Process
To carbonize the impregnated pitch, a secondary heat treatment is conducted at temperatures below 800°C. The rebaking process takes approximately one week.
STEP 5: Graphitization Process
Rebaked electrodes undergo a heat treatment process known as graphitization, where electric Joule heating is employed to raise the temperature to approximately 3000°C.
Step 6: Machining Process
Both electrode body and the joint are machined using special machine to achieve precision levels as fine as 1/1000mm, depending on the part.
Step 7: Inspection Process
After undergoing product property measurements and conducting visual inspections, the product is shipped out as the finished product.
400mm Graphite Electrode Usage Requirements




When the graphite electrodes are selected for electric steel furnace, reference is made to the current carrying capacity of the electrodes.
Before the electrodes are connected to the nipples, it is necessary to blow the electrode threads thoroughly clean with compressed air and screw the nipples tightly then into the electrodes.
When the elevator of the electric arc furnace is hoisting the electrodes, no swing is allowed so as to avoid the electrode joints being loosened and dislocated. The tightening devices of the electrodes must not hold the electrode near the area of nipple sockets.
In order to prevent the breakage of the electrodes in case of scrap cave-ins, lift the electrodes in time according to the melting condition and dump the unmelted waste steel into the pool.
Charging the furnace, put the large scrap steel lumps at the bottom and the small ones at the top. In order to prevent dislocation after the electrodes being jointed, we provide binding paste and pins which is easily to be applied.
The transport and storage of the graphite electrodes must be kept away from being moistened or wetted by rain, snow and water. Be sure to dry them up before use .
