What is the manufacturing process of high-power graphite electrodes?


High-power graphite electrodes are commonly used in arc furnaces and smelting furnaces. They can withstand very high temperatures and have good conductivity. The process of manufacturing high-power graphite electrodes is relatively complex and requires specific materials, equipment and steps. The following is an overview of the manufacturing process:

Required materials:

Petroleum coke or natural graphite: As the basic raw materials of electrodes, these carbon materials have high purity and crystallinity.

Binder: Coal tar is usually used as a binder, which helps the raw material particles to stick together during the roasting process.

Additives: May include antioxidants, metal powders, etc., used to improve the performance of the electrode.

Equipment:

Mixing equipment: used to evenly mix the raw materials and binders.

Extruder: used to extrude the mixed paste material into the desired shape of the electrode blank.

Baking furnace: used to treat the electrode blank at high temperature under a controlled atmosphere to remove volatiles and increase its density and strength.

Impregnation equipment: used to immerse the roasted electrode blank in coal tar to improve its conductivity and mechanical strength.

Graphitization furnace: used to treat the impregnated electrode at a temperature of up to 3000°C to convert it into a graphite structure.Processing equipment: used to cut, grind and shape the electrode to the required size.
