The difference between graphite electrodes and copper electrodes
When the spark machine discharges, what is the difference between graphite electrodes and copper electrodes? Graphite electrodes and copper electrodes are common electrodes in spark machines. This issue of ZhenAn Graphite Editor will give you a brief introduction!
1. The increasingly complex geometry of the mold and the diversification of product applications have led to higher and higher discharge accuracy of the machine. Graphite electrodes have the advantages of easy processing, high discharge machining removal rate, and low graphite loss. Therefore, some spark machine customers have abandoned copper electrodes and graphite electrodes. There are also some special-shaped electrodes that cannot be made of copper, but graphite is easy to form and copper electrodes are heavy, which is not suitable for the processing of large electrodes. These factors have caused some spark machine customers to choose graphite electrodes.
2. Graphite electrodes are easy to process and the processing speed is much faster than copper electrodes. For example, the milling of graphite is 2 to 3 times faster than other metal processing, and no additional manual processing is required, while copper electrodes require manual grinding. Similarly, if graphite electrodes are used to make electrodes, the speed will be faster, more efficient and there will be no dust problems. In these processes, choosing the right tools and graphite hardness can reduce tool wear and copper damage. If you compare the grinding time of graphite electrodes and copper electrodes, graphite is 67% faster than copper electrodes. Generally, the processing of graphite electrodes is 58% faster than that of copper electrodes. In this way, the processing time is greatly shortened, and the manufacturing cost is also reduced.
3. The design of graphite electrodes is different from that of traditional copper electrodes. Many mold factories usually make different reserve amounts on rough and fine copper electrodes, while the use of graphite electrodes is almost the same as the reserve amount. This reduces the amount of CAD/CAM and machine processing, and this reason alone is enough to greatly improve the accuracy of the mold cavity.
