For graphite electrodes of the same diameter (e.g., 400mm), what are the core differences between RP, HP, and UHP grades?
The essential difference in power level lies in the degree of graphitization and physical performance indicators, which directly affect the efficiency of the electric furnace:
• RP (normal power): Graphitization temperature is low (approximately 2300°C), resistivity is high (≥65μΩ·m), and flexural strength is medium (≥10MPa), making it suitable for traditional low-intensity smelting.
• HP (high power): Graphitization temperature is increased to above 2800°C, resistivity is reduced (50-65μΩ·m), flexural strength is increased (≥14MPa), allowing for higher current densities and reducing power consumption.
• UHP (ultra-high power): Graphitization temperature is close to 3000°C, resistivity is ≤50μΩ·m, flexural strength is ≥16MPa, and elastic modulus is lower (better thermal shock resistance). This allows for ultra-high power operation of the electric furnace (e.g., above 1000kVA/ton), significantly improving smelting efficiency.
