The primary raw material for graphite felt electrode production is petroleum coke. A small amount of asphalt coke can be added to ordinary power graphite electrodes. The sulfur content in petroleum coke and asphalt coke must not exceed 0.5%. Needle coke is essential for producing high-power or ultra-high-powergraphite felt electrodes. For aluminum anode production, the main raw material is also petroleum coke, with the sulfur content controlled to no more than 2%. Both petroleum coke and asphalt coke must meet relevant national quality standards.
graphite felt electrodes are capable of withstanding high-current conditions. Additionally, under appropriate rough machining conditions, the carbon particles from the etched products of steel workpieces (containing carbon elements) and the decomposition products of the working fluid at high temperatures adhere to the electrode surface due to the polarity effect. This forms a protective layer, ensuring minimal loss of the graphite felt electrode during rough machining, sometimes even achieving "zero loss." The primary electrode loss in EDM (electrical discharge machining) occurs during rough machining. Although the loss rate is higher under fine machining conditions, the overall loss is relatively low because the machining allowance is small, resulting in less material removal.
