Long production cycle:
The production cycle for ordinary power graphite electrodes is approximately 45 days, while for ultra-high power graphite electrodes, it exceeds 70 days. For graphite electrode joints that require multiple impregnations, the production cycle is even longer.
High energy consumption:
Producing 1 ton of ordinary power graphite electrodes consumes approximately 6,000 kW·h of electricity, thousands of cubic meters of coal gas or natural gas, and about 1 ton of metallurgical coke particles and powder.
Complex production processes:
The production process involves multiple steps, including raw material calcination, crushing and grinding, batching, kneading, molding, roasting, impregnation, graphitization, and mechanical processing. It requires specialized mechanical equipment and kilns with unique structures, resulting in significant construction investment and a long investment recovery period.
Environmental considerations:
The production process generates a certain amount of dust and harmful gases. Comprehensive environmental protection measures, such as ventilation, dust removal, and harmful gas elimination, are essential to mitigate these effects.
Dependence on raw material quality:
The carbonaceous raw materials required for production, such as petroleum coke and coal tar, are by-products of oil refining and coal chemical processing. The quality and stability of these raw materials are not always guaranteed. This is particularly true for needle coke, modified electrode pitch, and special impregnating pitch with low quinoline insoluble content, which are critical for producing high-power and ultra-high-power graphite electrodes. The attention and active cooperation of China's petroleum and coal chemical processing enterprises are urgently needed to address this issue.
