Raw graphite materials, typically derived from petroleum coke or coal tar pitch, contain inherent impurities like sulfur, silicon, and iron oxides. Through advanced purification processes-including halogen treatment, alkali melting, and high-temperature vacuum distillation-these contaminants are reduced to levels below 0.1%, achieving purity exceeding 99.9%.

 

The benefits of purification are profound. In electric arc furnaces, impurities act as "getters," reacting with molten steel and degrading product quality. Purified electrodes eliminate this risk, ensuring cleaner steel with fewer defects. Additionally, low impurity levels reduce electrode consumption: impurities accelerate oxidation at high temperatures, shortening electrode life.
